"Seeing and Being Seen" is a photography exhibition that examines the subtle yet pervasive dynamics of observation in contemporary life. We are all both watchers and the watched-whether consciously or unconsciously-embedded in a continuous exchange of gazes that shape our understanding of ourselves, others, and the world around us.
Curated by Shijia Song, this exhibition brings together the works of five photographers- Anna Yan, Junxian Pan, Lexiong Ying, Ling Qiao, and Wenqian Liu (Vincy)-each o ering a distinct interpretation of what it means to look and to be looked at. Some images are tender and introspective, others bold and confrontational. The diversity of approaches reflects the multiplicity of questions at the heart of the show: Who is looking? What is being seen? And what power lies in the act of seeing?
Photography here is not only a tool of documentation but a medium of positioning. Every frame is shaped by the photographer's subjectivity-their identity, their context, their intent. And just as importantly, the subjects in these works confront the viewer with their own presence, inviting us to consider the emotional and political stakes of visibility in the digital age.
In a time defined by constant exposure and surveillance, to be seen can mean vulnerability, loss of agency-or an act of resistance. This exhibition invites viewers to reflect on their own position within this complex interplay. Are we merely observers, or are we, too, being seen?
