The visual journey for this online show has been gently inspired by the current surreal and strange times of self-isolation and lockdown… Hiding, sheltering… Escaping into one's head when being alone, on the edge of the cliff or possibly self-reflection on the past and the future… Darkness and Light...
Empty streets...
Sadness of graveyards… Beauty of flowers…
Fear and anxieties of today or strength and hope for tomorrow. A bit black and white and a bit of colour.
Maybe awakening to something new in front of us… Spring is here, new born ideas, a brainstorm of thoughts like acrobats juggling balls around your head...
Nature or Nurture. Culture. Spirit. Science. Art.
We will be fine, we hope. We will dance again together or alone.
Stay safe and sane.
Patience.

Newborn Awakening - the online exclusive exhibition gathers a selection of works from MMX Gallery represented artists including prints from the gallery's archive and collection. All works are available to purchase as limited edition prints as well as unique artworks.

The photographic images can play on one's imagination to reflect the current situation but they are all timeless works of art that speak their own stories... The stories to be discovered by the viewer.

The title of the online show comes from The Doors vocalist Jim Morrison's poem;

"Newborn Awakening"

(...)

Gently they stir, gently rise
The dead are newborn awakening
With ravaged limbs and wet souls
Gently they sigh in rapt funeral amazement
Who called these dead to dance?
Was it the young woman learning to play the "Ghost Song" on her baby grand?
Was it the wilderness children?
Was it the Ghost-God himself, stuttering, cheering, chatting blindly?
I called you up to anoint the earth
I called you to announce sadness falling like burned skin
I called you to wish you well
To glory in self like a new monster
And now I call you to pray
