For the 1994 Pirelli Calendar shot on the Paradise Island in the Bahamas, photographer Herb Ritts set out to capture in a series of nudes what he called “the gentle innocence” of Kate Moss, who was then just 19 years old. The history of the Pirelli Calendar dates back to the 1960s and has evolved over the years, becoming an iconic cultural phenomenon. Origins and Early Years (1964-1974): The Pirelli Calendar was first launched in 1964 as an exclusive gift for Pirelli's top clients and business partners. The calendar has a reputation for its choice of photographers and models... “The calendar is produced with limited availability. Copies do not go on sale, but are instead given as corporate gifts to celebrities and select Pirelli customers.” This is a vintage chromogenic print from the original Pirelli's Calendar Photoshoot session, shot by Herb Ritts and commissioned by Pirelli. This Print is in an excellent condition with just a minor artefact/ dent in a top right hand side corner but only visible when inspecting under lighting and certain angles. The Print was professionally framed in 2024 with bespoke hand made frame and museum standard mount board and finished with anti reflective Art Glass.
About the Photographer:
Herb Ritts was a leading American fashion photographer of the 1980s and 1990s, known for his beautifully printed, formally bold, and sensual black-and-white images of supermodels as well as seen here shots in colour of world of celebrities. Ritts' work often appeared in magazines like Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone. His photos graced music album covers and appeared in advertisements for companies like Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, the Gap and Giorgio Armani. He has published books of his work, and his photography has also been displayed in galleries and museums.
Framed with classic mount board, white washed custom made hardwood frame and finished with antireflective UV protective art glass.
This print is unsigned but the Certificate of Authenticity from the gallery and the Letter of Provenance for the this original Pirelli Print will be provided.
